Oudin, Stephens Coming to Austin

May 18, 2010 04:04 PM

Two of America's young stars, Melanie Oudin and Sloane Stephens will headline the Dell Tennis Classic presented by Fox 7 on Saturday, July 24th, at 1:00PM at Lakeway World of Tennis located at One World of Tennis, Austin. In addition to the Oudin and Stephen's singles match, the Tennis Classic will also feature local players in an innovative tiebreak shootout format.

"We are very excited to bring world class women's tennis to Austin" said Tim Stallard, President of Prolink Sports & Entertainment. "It's an honor to have two members of the US Fed Cup team participate in the 3rd Annual Classic."

Melanie Oudin, at the age of 17, became America's sweetheart of tennis with her improbable run to the quarterfinals of the 2009 US Open, where she defeated top ranked players including Maria Sharapova, Elena Dementieva, and Nadia Petrova. Oudin became the youngest American tennis player to play in the quarterfinals since Serena Williams in 1999. She was named the WTA 2009 Newcomer of the Year, and has led the US 2010 Fed Cup team to the world championship final to be held in November of this year.

Sloane Stephens turned professional in 2009 after an outstanding junior career including reaching the semifinals at the 2009 French Open and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2009. Most recently she was also named to the US Fed Cup team. At the 2010 BNP Paribas she defeated Lucie Hradecka and then lost in a closely contested match against the defending champion, world number 12th ranked, Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 7-5.

The Classic is proudly supported by Dell, the United States Tennis Association, KTBC Fox 7, Wilson, and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Tickets are available to the public beginning Saturday, May 22nd on-line through www.etix.com or by calling 800-514-etix(3849). Ticket prices are $22.50 general admission/lawn, $37.50 and $52.50.

ATC PRIDE FEST BOOTH A HUGE SUCCESS!!

Written by Eric Heeder

I want personally thank the handful of dedicated members who came out to support the club and man the ATC pride booth.  We had record numbers of new member interest this year and ended up with over 35 new member forms filled out!! Half of which are female players .  With one of the boards goals this year being to make ATC a more diverse club, I am truly excited to have so many females interested in our club. We will be hosting a new member social one Friday evening in the near future and hope to have all of our current members come out to support the event and make the new players feel welcome.

Thanks again to all who volunteered and showed to the gay community how fun and welcoming ATC truly is.
