Everyone, it is that time of year again to vote on a couple of things.

ATC Board for the year 2010. We need to solicit nominations to run for the following positions:

    • President
    • Vice President
    • Secretary
    • Competitive Director
    • Ladder Director
    • Social Director
    • Communications and Website Director
    • Membership Director

If you are interested in serving on the board and making a difference for our club, please consider one of the above positions. The board meets once a month.

ATC annual members awards nominations. At the year end event, we will announce the winners of the following awards. Please nominate someone that you feel deserves these awards and the voting will commence in November:

    • Member of the Year
    • Player of the Year
    • Most Improved Player of the Year
    • Newcomer of the Year

Member of the Year is intended to honor someone who is helpful, friendly, involved--in other words, a great ambassador for ATC. Tennis skill should have no relation to this award. The person who wins this awards will receive a free 2010 ATC membership.

Thanks to everyone for a great year and I look forward to seeing your nominations. Send all responses to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it !

Congrats US Open Racket Bracket Winners!

Congratulations to this year's US Open Racket Bracket Winners!

This year's Women's draw was full of upsets so it was an incredibly tough draw to get correct. Del Potro taking the title from Fed was also a bit of a surprise on the men's side.

    This year's winners are:

    • Women's Draw:Tim Wei (209 points)
    • Men's Draw:Doug Plummer (192 points)

We'll be back in January with the Australian Open Draw!

    ATC Wimbledon Racket Bracket

    Wimbledon Logo

Think you know who's going to shine at Wimbledon this year?

Will this be Fed's 15th Grand Slam? Will Rafa's knees fail him before defending his title? Maybe this is the year Murray makes his move? Roddick? Maybe Verdasco (man, I hope we see a lot of him on TV during this tournament!)

Let's see how the ATC folks do at picking the winner this year. Enter the ATC Racket Bracket (hosted by Tourneytopia, the same people that do Tennis Channel's Racket Bracket) and pick your winners! Entries open Friday morning and you can enter your picks all the way through Monday morning. Points will be awarded based on the round:

    • 1 point for each first round match
    • 2 points for each second round match
    • 3 points for each third round match
    • 5 points for each fourth round match
    • 10 points for each quarterfinal match
    • 20 points for each semifinal match
    • 30 points for picking the final
That's it! Let's see who can pick the winners this year!

Oh... and by the way, the MEMBER who has the highest point total might just win something from the ATC Board. (Yes, I'm being secretive because I'm not sure exactly what that prize will be!)

    Welcome New Members and Friends!

Thank you everyone who came out and supported Austin Tennis Club at this weekend's Pride Festival.  It was a great weekend for all of Austin's GLBT organizations and we are very happy we could be a part of it.  Since there were a number of new faces around the ATC booth this weekend, I thought it would be a good time to go over some of the ATC basics again.

If you want to become active with ATC, the best way to do so is to start playing our Friday night tennis socials.  Every Friday at 6:30pm, we meet up at South Austin Tennis Center and play.  If you want to come by, here's the step-by-step guide to getting on the list:

    1. First, sign up for the ATC/Yahoo! Groups email newsletter.  You can do this by visiting http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/AustinTennisClub/ or by simply sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
    2. At the beginning of each week (usually Monday afternoon), we will send out the RSVP email for that Friday's social.  Once you see it hit your inbox, hit reply and let us know you'd like to be added to the list.  Be sure to reply back as soon as possible.  We have a limited number of courts and we frequently fill up those spots fairly quickly.  If you don't make the list, you'll be put on the waitlist and might have a spot if someone above you cancels.
    3. On Thursday, we will send out another email with the list of people who have made the list and who's on the waitlist.  If you replied soon enough, you'll be on the confirmed list, but there's a chance you might be on the waitlist, depending on how many courts we are able to secure on Friday (normally between 5 and 7 courts).
    4. If you're on the confirmed list, show up on Friday and get to know the group.  We try our best to match you up with others of similar skill level, so don't be intimidated. The cost is $5 for non-members, $4 for members and free for Gold members.  (You can see what is included with each membership level here.)

So that's it in a nutshell!  We have Friday night tennis socials almost every week, unless there's a holiday or other special event that day.

Of course, that's not all we do!  We have plenty of other socials throughout the year as well, including a couple of Team Tennis Seasons (more on that later), a members-only singles and doubles tournament, the occasional movie night/game night/bowling night/something random, and our own internationl charity tournament (Heart of Texas Classic).  We keep pretty busy and we're always looking for more people to come out and play and contribute to the group.  Got a great idea for a social event?  We'd love to hear it.
