Welcome to the ATC Ladder!
Updated January 22, 2013
The Austin Tennis Club Ladder is a great way to challenge yourself as a player and enjoy a competitive match with a friend.
Ladder results are used for Texas Cup Team selection (~top 24 players for singles) , ATC tournament seedings, end of year awards, and Friday night social lineups. The ladder is currently open for regular challenges, until the Texas Cup team is selected.
If you have any questions on the ladder, please contact Competitive Tennis Director,

Ladder Rules
- The Austin Tennis Club Ladder is governed by a biaunnual points system. (Explained below)
- If a player does not meet their points requirement for two consecutive 6 month periods, they will be removed from the ladder. If this occurs, there is no waiting period to challenge back onto the ladder.
- If a member asks to be voluntarily removed from the ladder, they must wait 30 days from the date of removal before they may issue a challenge to return to the ladder.
- A player may only challenge up to 7 levels above their position.
- A player is only obligated to play 1 challenge match per week. A player receiving multiple challenges in a short time period should play the challenges in the order received.
- If a player is not on the ladder, he or she must become a member of ATC and may initially challenge anyone. If the member is unsuccessful in their first challenge, they have the opportunity to challenge a second time a minimum of 3 rankings below their first challenge. If they are unsuccessful a second time, they will be placed at the bottom of the ladder.
- If a player wins his or her challenge, he or she takes the place of the beaten player, and the beaten player moves down one rank.
- If a player is injured, he or she must alert the Competitive Tennis Director (

) to become inactive. This protects the injured player from being challenged, but he or she is not protected from moving down in the event that someone in front of him or her is challenged and loses. An injured person on the ladder does not factor into the rule: “Players can only challenge people up to 7 ranks above them.” A player on the injured list is omitted from the 7 rank count.
- The challenging players must bring tennis balls.
- A challenged player must respond in a timely (within one week) manner. Challengers are also encouraged to phone their opponent if they get no response to emails. If a player does not respond to phone or emails, he or she will forfeit the match. On the last email, the challenging player should copy ATC on the email. (

- Players are expected to be courteous and reasonable in all aspects of challenge matches, including scheduling and court behavior.
- After the challenge is complete, the winner should report the score to

Points System Explanation
Members in current standing and participating in the Ladder will now be required to maintain a point balance per 6 month period. (January - June and July-December)
12 points per 6 months will be required to maintain your ranking and eligibility for the Texas Cup team.
- There will be 3 levels to the ladder in which point values per match will be assigned.
o Matches played by players in Rankings 2-10 will be worth 12 points.
o Matches played by players in Rankings 11-20 will be worth 6 points.
o Matches played by players in Rankings 21 and further will be worth 4 points.
The number 1 ranked player shall be awarded their points automatically, but they must still accept challenges at any time.
A player challenging into a higher level that wins their match will receive points according to their new level. If they are unsuccessful in the challenge, they will receive the points for their current level.
Furthermore, eligibility for Texas Cup shall be that any player within the top 25 rankings that has sustained an injury, and/or requested a sabbatical, within the 3 months prior to the selection of the team, shall be required to play a minimum of one match prior to Texas Cup team selection to maintain their position and eligibility.
**For the initial 6 month period from January to June 2013, all players on the 2012 Texas Cup Team that won their match during the tournament will be awarded 12 points to be eligible for the 2013 team selection process. Thereafter, any player who wins and reports their Texas Cup match to the Competitive Director will receive their full 12 points for the following spring period.
***Any player who participates in the GLTA Heart of Texas Classic Tournament will also receive their full 12 points for the following autumn period. Matches played against another ATC member during the tournament will NOT be considered a challenge match. Ladder rankings will not be affected by any GLTA Tournament match played between members unless they have notified the Competitive Director prior to playing. Ranking restrictions apply for the match to be considered.
Exampe - If a member were to win a Texas Cup match and participate in the HOT Tournament in the same year, they would be current on their points for the next TWO six month periods! So participate in the HOT Tournament and support our club, your ladder standing, and our amazing charity organization that we donate proceeds from the tournament to!
